If you missed the public kick-off conference call hosted by the US EPA to introduce the ENERGY STAR® for UPS framework discussion, background, program objectives, and public comment period, there is still plenty of time and several paths to become involved. According to a study by EPRI, a mandatory ENERGY STAR specification for UPSs in the US market alone could have saved 2.8 trillion kWh. At an average of $.10/kW, that’s $280 billion. Even if EPRI is off by a factor of 10 the savings are still enormous. Makes you wonder how much your business would save with greater adoption of ENERGY STAR devices, doesn’t it?
So come help us help the EPA in developing this specification. You can respond directly as an interested party. Framework information is available at http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?c=new_specs.uninterruptible_power_supplies or you can download the framework document and reply directly to ups@energystar.gov.
Have a time crunch or just interested in a few aspects of the ENERGY STAR specification? Maybe you are an end-user who wants to voice some specific test, application, reliability, or system interaction concerns and don’t want to engage on the entire specification or the duration of the process. Consider commenting via The Green Grid. Member companies can participate in the Energy Star for UPS task force. Send me an email if you need more information on how to join the task force.
Inquiring minds want to know – are you interested in grabbing your share of that $280 Billion in savings via an ENERGY STAR-rated UPS?
